Who We Are

How we started and how we’ve grown

In 2009, Heath Hurst started a lawn mowing business in downtown Indianapolis. He showed up on time, worked hard and treated people fairly. That simple strategy worked. Demand for landscaping work beyond mowing grew, and he started adding services and equipment and built a sales and administrative team in order to handle the projected growth. He expanded into hardscaping and other more robust outdoor living projects as well as snow removal. Heath Outdoor established a reputation as a trusted landscaping and general contracting company that listened to their customers and did what they said they were going to do.

In 2017, Heath’s brother Travis Hurst joined the company and they began to grow the business together by expanding services, hiring experienced and dedicated people, and focusing on training, education and customer service. Through acquiring two other local companies, True North Landscaping and Spotts Garden Service, they added experts in water features, natural landscaping and eco-friendly, organic private gardening to the dedicated team of landscaping professionals at Heath Outdoor.

A commitment to giving back

As our company has grown, so has our desire to give back. Over the last several years, Heath Outdoor has supported Butter Art Fair, Feast of Lanterns and Near Eastside Area Renewal (NEAR), among other local organizations. Proud members of the Indy Rainbow Chamber of Commerce, we participate annually in the Indy Pride Parade. And, in 2022, we began our Juneteenth Day of Service project, in which our entire team gives a day of service to a Black-owned business or organization. For us, community means everything.

A simple philosophy

Since the early days of one guy with a lawn mower, Heath Outdoor has grown exponentially, through one simple philosophy: Always do the right thing. We listen, look for solutions and think creatively. Treating both our customers and our employees with care and respect has always been, and always will be, our growth strategy.

I live downtown in Cottage Home with my beautiful wife Jessie and two crazy kids. I started mowing lawns when I was nine years old and have worked outside in some capacity ever since. I have a B.A. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Purdue and the majority of my experience is in landscape construction, talent acquisition, and personnel management. I started Heath Outdoor in 2009 as the only employee and am humbled to have seen it grow to nearly 80 wonderful human beings. While I spend a lot of time on administrative stuff now, I still love a long day of hard work outside, (followed by Modelo and some steak tacos!)

The most important things in my life are my lovely wife Kari and my two unique daughters. Whether it is coaching, serving, traveling or just chilling in front of the TV; being with them drives me. I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with my brother Heath to build relationships in the community with our customers, vendors and team. I also enjoy carpentry, math and learning new things. Heath Outdoor has taught me the importance of relationships and cooperation. Heath Outdoor is the greatest family to be a part of and I appreciate every person in it.

I've been involved in the Green Industry for 23 years. I love Trees, Shrubs, Natural Stone, connecting with People, and sharing good stories. I've been married to a gem of a Lady named Christy for 30 years, and we have 3 beautiful Daughters. I feel 'the most myself' when I'm outside, especially in the Woods or in a Creek with a fishing pole in my hands.

I have been creating and maintaining landscapes for about a decade. Through each step of my journey in the industry, my delight in putting a smile on someone’s face has only grown. Serving in sales/design is a great outlet for my creativity and artistry. I am blessed to go home to a beautiful wife and five amazing children.

Dennis Linner

My background is in residential and commercial design, but I’ve been in my mother’s flower beds since I was a kid. Working with Heath Outdoor has allowed me to bring my passion for design to life. Whether I'm sketching a design on a napkin or working with 3D software, I'm happy. I love to mix organic landscapes with hardscapes. When I'm not designing, I love cooking, especially for my friends and family.

Chad Cox

Chad Cox

Chad is a seasoned landscaping professional with a wealth of experience and a passion for bringing projects to life. His journey began at 27 years old when he joined Lordin Landscapes, where he honed his skills in both hardscape and softscape landscaping. In the mid-2000s, Chad crossed paths with Cory at True North Landscaping, where they collaborated on projects before reuniting to work together full-time in 2017. With the acquisition of True North Landscaping by Heath Outdoor in 2020, Chad joined the Heath Outdoor team. Outside of work, Chad enjoys a variety of hobbies including sailing, cooking, scuba diving, traveling, learning about other cultures, playing guitar, and gardening. With his diverse skill set and passion for the industry, Chad is an invaluable asset to our team at Heath Outdoor.

Hannah Flege

Seasonal Annuals & Residential Sales Design

Hannah Flege

Hannah has been in the green industry since 2020, as an urban farmer, houseplant shop owner and designer. She holds a degree in Public Health Administration from IUI. She joined the Heath Outdoor team in 2024 as a member of the DIGS team, but quickly worked her way up to director of the annuals division. (And now creates the beautiful annual planters at her alma mater!) Hannah is passionate, creative, and driven to find environmentally responsible and sustainable ways to grow things. When she’s not digging in the dirt, she finds time to attend music festivals and play outside with her partner and three dogs.

José (Scooby) Lariz has been in the landscaping industry for nearly twenty years, and loves being on the Heath Outdoor crew. When he's not out slinging dirt and making landscapes shine, you'll find him hanging with his two amazing kiddos and wife.

Ashli joined the Heath Outdoor family in March of 2021. From overseeing the support team to scheduling the sales team, and everything in between, she quite literally keeps our train on the track. When she's not keeping us in line, she's a boy mom to two amazing kiddos and loves every minute of the chaos.

Britt Brock Seib

Britt joined the Hurst Brothers family of companies in 2025. She brings with her not just a wealth of experience in finance and accounting, but also a creative approach to problem solving and an unwavering optimism. In other words, she’s an absolute treasure. When she’s not wrangling with numbers, she’s a mom to two gorgeous girls and two very spoiled pups, and can be found shopping or indulging in a bougie craft cocktail!

Karen brings a wealth of marketing experience to Heath Outdoor. She has worked as a content strategist and freelance writer for nearly 15 years. Karen embraces the Heath Outdoor values of community service and diversity, equity and inclusion and is excited to spread the word about the amazing work that the Heath Outdoor team does.

Celerino Camarana

In 2018, Celerino found a new path at Heath Outdoor, LLC after recovering from a fracture and a previous job layoff. Starting as a member of the crew support team, Celerino's dedication and strong work ethic quickly propelled him into a leadership role within a few short years. Celerino particularly enjoys engaging with the Sales Department to review blueprints and project photos, and then translating these details to the team lead. His meticulous attention to detail and passion for project planning significantly contribute to the success of every endeavor.

Chewy Lariz

Chewy began his career with Heath Outdoor as a crew member in 2013. At that time, there were only seven employees. He worked his way up to crew leader and then project manager, finally stepping into the role of Director of Operations. When he's not working, he loves watching all things Motocross and racing.

My whole life I’ve looked for excuses to be outside. In 2016, I started working at True North Landscaping- weaving a spade through soil transforming people's yards into something more. I love building harmony with water, natural stone, plants, trees into our customers outdoor spaces while supporting a great group of coworkers, striving to improve our skills and culture.

Antonio is a valued member of our team here at Heath Outdoor. With eight years of experience in construction, including houses, electricity, plumbing, and concrete, Antonio brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his role. During his time at Heath Outdoor, Antonio has demonstrated his dedication and leadership skills, progressing from crew leader to specialist, and finally to Project Manager in 2023. Antonio deeply appreciates the support and motivation he receives at Heath Outdoor, feeling grateful to come to work each day. With his positive attitude and commitment to excellence, Antonio is an invaluable asset to our team.

Meet Brad, a dedicated member of our landscaping team here at Heath Outdoor. Brad's journey with Heath began in his early 20s, and he has been an integral part of our team for close to 16 years. As a jack of all trades, Brad has tackled numerous roles at Heath Outdoor, bringing versatility and expertise to every task he undertakes. He values the sense of family that runs throughout Heath Outdoor and loves that he has a job where his faithful sidekick Filo can come to work with him every day. Brad is a lifelong learner who is passionate about exploring new techniques and ways of doing things. He is constantly seeking to expand his knowledge and skills in all aspects of landscaping.

Karl is a valuable and skilled member of our team here at Heath Outdoor. Karl's journey began in house framing before finding his way to us. With a background in carpentry, Karl has always been involved in various aspects of construction. Having attended window framing workshops at Hoosier Carpentry, Karl sought new opportunities for advancement and growth. In 2023, he joined our team at Heath Outdoor, where he has been involved in a wide range of tasks, including plumbing, electrical work, framing, and building outdoor kitchens. Karl is committed to expanding his skill set, particularly in plumbing and electrical work, to further enhance his capabilities in the field. When he's not hard at work, Karl enjoys spending time with his kids and staying active.

Meet Chloe, a dedicated individual with a passion for nature and the outdoors. With years of experience serving customers in various sectors, including flooring and video game stores, Chloe brings a unique perspective to the team at Heath Outdoor. Drawn to the company after discovering an opportunity listed online, Chloe felt an instant connection to our culture and knew it was the perfect fit. Known for their exceptional customer service skills, Chloe excels at helping people and is particularly passionate about plants. In their free time, Chloe is an artist, exploring various mediums such as sculpting, painting, and drawing. They also enjoy learning and working with native Indiana plants.

Mikayla joined Heath Outdoor in 2025. She studied data analytics at Ivy Tech and previously worked for FedEx and Aldi Distribution, so she brings a wealth of experience in logistics, which comes in really handy as she’s helping get multiple projects scheduled and on track. “My favorite part of my job is making sure customers feel heard and valued," said Mikayla. "I also love being a part of helping them make their landscaping dreams come true." When she’s not working, she loves baking, being outdoors and spending time with her kids.
